Guarana

Funk, Indie, Pop, Rock
About:
If you are looking for a band that is progressively different but yet accessible to the masses look no further than Guarana, a dynamic, rocking, three-piece who combine the passion of bands like The Clash with a groove and soul presentation that would make even James Brown jealous. Devon-based but internationally ambitious, these boys manage to fuse their diverse influences into a sound that is literally their own; to quote, “They truly are following no-one.”Danny Le Pelley is the voice and the driving inspiration behind Guarana. A prolific and distinctive songwriter with an emotive voice, Danny wants to bring the world at large a new breed of funk and rock and reflect the things in society that many of us tend to overlook. Lofty ambitions, but with the musical backing of liquid-cool bass-player Gav Marley and the taut yet somehow expansive drumming of Jef House he has the perfect vehicle to showcase and to realise such intentions. Together they coalesce into a hip-influencing, more-solid-than-the-most-solid-of-solid-things unit capable of simultaneously entrancing, romancing and just plain dancing you into submission.Guarana formed in the spring of 2000. With their driving rock sound they quickly established themselves on the live music circuit, playing across the south west and midlands. That same year they entered the National Battle of the Bands finishing 6th out of 200 UK bands and were the first band ever in the history of the competition to gain full marks from all 5 judges for material and performance.January 2001 saw them release their debut single “The Real World” which was very well received and is still being played on independent radio stations around the world. “Cathy Says”, a b-side on the single has since been released on several compilation CDs in Europe and the US. In the spring they recorded another two tracks “Lullaby” and “Outside”. “Lullaby” was picked up by indie label Matchbox Recordings and once again lead to more world-wide distribution and radio play.Over 2001 Guarana played some 50 gigs including a couple of festival headlines which has polished their live performance into something truly impressive. In the autumn they were picked up by Rick Wolkers (Muse) which has lead to an album deal, they are in the middle of recording new material at the moment. With a triple bill next month along side Atomic Kitten and Lulu and an album out later in the year, 2002 could well be the year that Guarana break into the big t
