About:
|
At the turn of the millennium Angel Tech seemed poised for great things, but then their story went awry. With a major deal in their pockets, Angel Tech were, along with Coldplay, touted by the NME in 1999 as the next big thing of 2000. After a couple of successful national tours as well as gigs in Europe and the US (SXSW Austin) - not to mention the recording of a great debut album at Peter Gabriel's Realworld Studios - events turned sour, the band were dropped and their recordings shelved. Not a little disillusioned, Tim, Neil and Doug took some time off to reflect. They threw themselves into various other roles; acting, writing, film-making, baby-making. Some thought Angel Tech were just the latest victims of the artist-eating machine that the music industry - at its worst - can be. But soon enough, the three found themselves discussing the future and, inevitably, another record, and this time they were determined to do things on their own terms. Within a couple of years they were building their own studio, successfully regaining ownership of their back catalogue, learning how to produce, mix, and release their own work. The result of all this is the album released June 5th 2006, the eponymous Angel Tech which sounds futuristic and yet somehow familiar, off-kilter and yet accessible, where a sparkling sonic universe wraps the listener up completely and yet never swamps the songs. There are almost hymnal melodies and Beach Boys harmonies: powerfully minimal one moment, a huge joyous see-sawing wall of noise the next; echoes of New Order, Bjork, My Bloody Valentine and Seefeel, and the effect is quite beguiling. www.angeltech.co.uk www.myspace.com/angeltech www.brain-gel.com PAST EVENTS: 1999 - SXSW 1999 + 2 UK tours 2000 - Metropolis UK tour 2000, playing original soundtrack live to screenings of Fritz Lang's 1926 cinema classic. 2002-3 - Skinworks tour with Bodies in Flight, highlights including ICA London UK, and Esplanade, Singapore 2005 - scored feature film Cross Eyed Waltz RELEASES: The Angel Tech Geometry Set, EP, June 1999 Constellation Songs, EP, Oct 1999 Skinworks EP: EP June 2003 Skinworks For Ears: Album, Dec 2005 My Part In Your Downfall: MP3 Single, September 2006 Angel Tech, Album, out October 2006 Signed to label: Brain-Gel Records
