About:
FISHKILL is the result of not having anyone else to play with for a very long period of time. I play all the instruments myself, except where there’s a guest musician. My style is alternative rock, with many other styles thrown in for good measure. Some of my influences include the Jam, Blur, the Beatles, the Smithereens, and REM, just to name a few. The sound is basically blues with lots of heavy guitar (I call it 'crunch'), fast rythms, and thought-provoking lyrics. |

I currently have on CD, "Past Mistakes", available on mp3.com and musicbuilder.com. All of the songs on "Past Mistakes" were recorded from 1986 to 1999. I pretty much used up my TASCAM Porta One four-track. It finally broke down this year. Unfortunately, there was no other way to play the original tapes I'd made, so I had to resort to the VHS masters I mixed. I had tried to produce two collections, but there was no real way for me to distribute these. Mostly, I just handed them out to people. The three collections were recorded under the name Chris Nelson and the Amazing 1 1/2 and titled "Understanding the Art Of War," "A Dignified Term for Disgusting Behavior," and "Prescriptions for Social Disorder" respectively.I was ready to stop after that many tries and so, I jokingly refer to it as my 'breakup' somewhere around 1993. I tried to market my songs to a local radio station in St Louis around 1995, when I decided I needed a name change--badly. That's when I came up with the name Fishkill, which doesn't really signify anything except maybe doing harm to fish. I tell people to sneeze it rather than say it. I did find out later that there's a town in upstate New York with the same name, later on. I swear I didn't know that when I picked it!I'm just about finished with my second CD, "The Big Purple Sky" which I hope to have out sometime in May and features all new songs.
