About:
|
I was born and brought up in Manchester, and this is still my home but I spend most of my time working in the south of England; I'm happy to travel and am on the move most of the time for a variety of gigs. As a live engineer (working closely with Chris T-Smith/BPAS) I am available as a freelance engineer for bands or venues across the UK - I especially enjoy my work as a monitor engineer. If required I can arrange a PA - from 'reinforcement' for acoustic music up to 15k or more for festivals or larger shows - always with myself and trusted colleagues. I also provide 24 track location recording for bands or concerts - and I use a ProTools rig for album projects. My life as a musician began aged three when I started playing the violin - I've been involved in music ever since, and it has been my full time profession since leaving education. I work a lot with Liam Robinson, playing English traditional music - as a duo, or with our dance band Pigeon English (featuring Tim Walker on brass/percussion). I also work a lot with caller/melodeon player Roger Watson www.rogerwatson.co.uk) both with his band Boka Halat and a variety of educational projects. I am very honoured to play bass with a UK-based Gambian band called XamXam - featuring master drummer Musa Mboob and guitarist/producer Ousman Beyai. I also play fiddle in Robb Johnson's band The Irregulars and am currently in the process of mixing Robb's latest album "Love, Death & Politics". I continue to work extensively with Bedfordshire based guitarist/producer Brian Heywood on various projects and gigs. Over the last few of years I have also recorded and gigged with: MoonDance, Whapweasel, Goo and the Cringe, Kandid, The Friday Lineup, The Fox Hat and Boka Halat as well as many others. I have performed in: Australia, Malta, France, Germany, Sweden, Poland and Ireland (as well as man tours in the UK). As a choral singer, I recorded and broadcast with the choirs of Manchester Cathedral and St Nicholas' Cathedral, Newcastle - and with the Rodolphus Choir. Whilst violin is still my main instrument, I play keyboards and electric bass with several bands - and am (still) looking forward to playing my new handmade mandola when it (eventually) arrives!!

My main violin is a top corner design by the fantastic English maker Timothy N. Phillips (#87). For more information please phone +44 (0) 1686 624 536. I also play a 5-string viola made by Tim (#131) and my electric violin is a white 5-string called a Lyra and made by Bridge Instruments. The bows I use most are both made from carbon fibre by CodaBow (an 'Aspire' violin model and a 'Conservatory' viola model, both available via bowshop.co.uk) I play 2 cheap basses tha both sound f*cking incredible, and are a constant joy - one is a short-scale and has frets, the other is full-scale fretless. I gig 2 Roland keyboards, an old XP10 and a new JunoD - I like them both a lot. I like big amps! The best tinned sweetcorn is by Green Giant - Salad Crisp variety (not Niblets Original). Liam Robinson & Thomas Fairbairn also endorse pork pies, any. Thanks for visiting this page, look forward to hearing from you!
