About:
|
I was born and brought up in Manchester, but currently live in Eastbourne, Sussex. My life as a musician began aged three when I started playing the violin through the Suzuki method - I've been involved in music ever since, and it has been my full time profession since leaving education. As a live audio engineer I am available to work for bands and if necessary am able to provide everything from a small system up to co-ordinating full production for festival stages. For arranging/composition, editing and mixing I use ProTools on a MacBook Pro. I work extensively with drummer and multi-percussionist Sam McEvoy, and together we can provide all kinds of top quality live music - a soul band to salsa to a string quartet - through Martello Music. I am honoured to work with the Gambian artist Musa Mboob on a variety of projects and recently produced and recorded his solo album 'Haral'. Over the last few of years I have also recorded and played live with: Zoe Mulford (trio), Debbie Chalmers (duo), The Leano, The James Asher Group featuring Mahesh Vinayakram, Whapweasel, Pigeon English, MoonDance, The Friday Lineup, Fosbrooks, David Goo, Kandid, Robb Johnson, BOOMhead, Dancing Master, The Bluetongue Bush Band, Xam Xam and Boka Halat - as well as many others. As a choral singer, I recorded and broadcast with the choirs of Manchester Cathedral and St Nicholas' Cathedral, Newcastle - and with the Rodolphus Choir. I have performed in: China, India, Australia, Malta, France, Germany, Sweden, Poland and Ireland.

I am proud to play a violin by a living British maker - it is a top corner design by the fantastic English maker Timothy N. Phillips (#87) and I also play a 5-string viola made by him (#131). The electric violin I use is made by Yamaha. The bows I use are both made from carbon fibre (an 'Aspire' violin model and a 'Conservatory' viola model) by CodaBow. My first bass was a short-scale instrument, with a full sound and a great neck. I also have a fretless which is used a lot - these are my two 'natural finish' instruments. I also have a couple of Ibanez basses in black (the 5 string is defretted and quickly becoming my everyday instrument of choice). My keyboards are by Roland - an old XP10 (useful for it's much loved dirty organ patch) and a newer JunoD. I find them great for live use, and I use Roland keyboard amps too. Recently I've begun using Apple's MainStage app to expand my palette of high quality sounds when playing live. I am delighted to own a mandola made by Haydn Williams! Thanks for visiting this page, look forward to hearing from you.
