The Cognition

Indie, Rock
About:
The CognitionMEET THE BROTHERS:Brian Campbell wanted to be a Rock Star. He knew it since he saw his older brother thrashing up East London stages in the punk band he formed in their parent’s basement. The rock and roll bomb had gone off inside his head and exploded in a shower of Killing Joke, Youth and Clash Albums.Matt Campbell was just a kid when Brian informed him they were going to start a band. “You’ll be the drummer,” said the older (not to mention ****-kicking stronger) Brian, “We’ll get the other guys eventually.”A few short years later, the brothers were parked around some pub stools lamenting the lack of decent guitar players only to look up and find Jim Sadler and Stuart Connolly looking bored and hacking away with a back barroom band. A couple of pints, a meeting in the steam room at York Hall and a few stolen instruments later, The Cognition began their rock roller coaster under the moniker 1,000 mph (chucking it a short time after their present day alias). What do rockers do when they have finally got their band together? They go on the road.“We wanted to develop our sound and become a tighter band,” said Brian, “The only way I knew how to do that was to get out and play for anyone who would listen.” Touring around the UK, France and Italy on their own and playing a 14-date residency in Nice, France, The Cognition began to shape into the band they aimed to be. Cool…Confidant…and ready to ROCK.Enter Full On Records. Stuart’s brother was working in a hotel across the street from label boss Alki David’s house. Occasionally Alki would use the Hotel’s Gym and eventually Stuart’s brother plucked up the guts to hand a Cognition demo over to him. The reaction was instant, and he immediately signed the band to his newly formed Full On Records. He took them where they needed to be. Where they could prove their magic to thousands of screaming fans. THE READING FESTIVAL there to the hoards of eager ears The Cognition played their hearts out and added hundreds to their steadily increasing mass of devoted The Cognition followers. The Cogntion recently finished recording their first album at Eastcote Studios in Notting Hill with Philip Bagenal (Ash, Cornershop) choosing from over 40 songs in their catalogue. The first single will be out with debut album ‘Dead Electric’ in January 2003. At present the band has released their EP ‘Getting’ Messy’ and are touring in London and Universities nationwide.
