Here are some character breakdowns with an idea of the plot too. NICK: The lead character who is in love with his friend TOM. He imagines what it is his friend sees when he is in different situations. We follow the characters narration through the story up to the tragic climax. Must be comfortable with playing a gay character and possible male contact. TOM: He is NICK's friend and is a little oblivious to NICK's feelings for him. He secretly has his own feelings for NICK but hides them in his diary. He also has a girlfriend, KATE. Must be comfortable with playing a gay character and possible male contact. KATE: TOM's girlfriend who is only referred to as 'her' until she appears in the third chapter. She hangs over TOM all the time she is with him and has a vengeful side which comes out when TOM discloses his feelings for NICK to her. She runs him down with her car in the climax. JAMES: A very minor role but very pivotal. In the third chapter we discover he had a fling a while back with lead character NICK. In a drunken slip he tells everyone that he went out with NICK. This leads TOM to discover NICK's sexuality and makes him want to reveal his own sexuality to NICK.
