Hi Kerry...I appreciate how hard and frustrating it is for actors and actresses to do lots of work on promises of just a COPY of DVD or Video - not even any pay. As Actors we have all done that at some stage in our careers, and regrettably time and again it is generally the Colleges and Student Film areas who are guilty of this negligence and unprofessionalism. They get THEIR film and their College/Degree work and then dont foillow up. Saying that, however, I have personally worked with several fantastic student/college productions and barring one, all others have given me copies of the work afterwards. Many Colleges and Student Film makers are extremely trustworthy but there are a few who are taking advantage of what they see as apparently FREE CAST. If they want a Professional CAST they should budget accordingly - Where they negotiate a Free DVD or Video Copy then the least they can do is ensure the Actor/Actress gets it... Unfortunately most such productions are not covered by Equity Contracts but they all want actors to sign an agreement/contract.... I suggest is that BEFORE doing any work, all agreements should have a clause added that essentially says the production company AND college (if a college production) agree to pay the Actor ALL Monies agreed (if any) AND a COPY of the Finished DVD/VIdeo BEFORE the Work is Viewed/screened to any third parties. ...Should they NOT do so then you (as the Actor/Actress) withold your permission for them to use, show, or promote the film to any third party whatsoever with your likeness in it. - That way they have the choice to use you or not...but if they do they must comply and give you a copy first or they will be subject to possible legal action. This is one way to go..hope it helps. Will be interesting to hear what others think.. also if you still havent had your copy I personally think you should go IN WRITING directly to the Principal of the College/University responsible and tell them the same anyway..that contractually you were promised a copy of the film and unless they provide you with a copy they are not to show, use, or otherwise allow viewing or exploitation of the film with your likeness in it until they do so. ..and if they do so (or have already done so) then they are liable to possible legal actions from yourself. PS I am not a Lawyer and all comments in this are my own personal thoughts and not legal advice...and without prejudice. But I hope this helps. Best wishes David Bowles
