Indeed, we must draw a very big line between "student" projects and "independent". I think the rule must be that if the individual is making the film for the sake of career, it can be considered independent, and therefore should pay. If the film is being made as part of an educational course, it can be considered "student", and then certain sacrifices must be made on both sides. Mark.
