Casting for reading of Justin's Genes

CVS Films are casting for a reading of their feature-length screenplay ‘Justin’s Genes’. Casting 5th & 6th September for a script reading on 19th September in central London. Travel expenses will be paid for the reading. Only the main roles are being cast for the reading – the minor roles will be read by members of the cast. Actors taking part in the reading may be offered roles when the film goes into production, for which funding is being sought. This is a hard-hitting script about one man’s experience of racism in Britain and how he manipulates the future to protect his son. Roles being cast follow. 1. Character Name: Duncan Beckford
Character Description: Lead role. A late-twenties, middle-class, handsome black man who works in a supermarket despite being a qualified geneticist. He enjoys salsa dancing. He has a South Indian mother, so submissions from mixed-race actors are welcome.
Actor Criteria:
Skin Colour = Black – Indian – mixed race black/Asian
Gender = Male , Min. Age = 25, Max. Age = 35
2. Character Name: Justin Beckford
Character Description: Brother of the lead character. A late-twenties, middle-class, black man who works in a computer shop. He enjoys salsa dancing. He has a South Indian mother, so submissions from mixed-race actors are welcome.
Actor Criteria:
Skin Colour = Black – Indian – mixed race black/Asian
Gender = Male, Min. Age = 25, Max. Age = 35
Clean UK driving licence.
3. Character Name: Salman
Character Description: A young Pakistani man who works in a supermarket.
Actor Criteria:
Skin Colour = Asian
Gender = Male, Min. Age = 18, Max. Age = 25
4. Character Name: Albert Beckford
Character Description: A Trinidadian happily married to Sheila, a South Indian woman. They’ve been living in London a long time. He’s the father of the lead character.
Actor Criteria:
Skin Colour = black
Gender = Male, Min. Age = 55, Max. Age = 70
5. Character Name: Colin
Character Description: A well off young man in his late 20s. A keen salsa dancer who drives a BMW.
Actor Criteria:
Skin Colour = black
Gender = male, Min. Age = 25, Max. Age = 35
6. Character Name: Dr Eric Russell
Character Description: A professional senior scientist with gravitas. A pleasant middle-class English man who’s made a successful career in the biosciences.
Actor Criteria:
Skin Colour = white
Gender = male, Min. Age = 50, Max. Age = 65
7. Character Name: Ivan
Character Description: A blond, blue-eyed man in his 40s from an Eastern European country such as Lithuania. The love interest of one of the female characters.
Actor Criteria:
Skin Colour = White
Gender = Male, Min. Age = 35, Max. Age = 50
8. Character Name: Priti
Character Description: A very pretty Indian classical dancer in her mid-20s. She’s a divorcee. The love interest of the male lead.
Actor Criteria:
Skin Colour = Asian
Gender = Female, Min. Age = 20, Max. Age = 30
Indian classical dancing required.
9. Character Name: Sheila Beckford
Character Description: The Indian mother of the male lead and married to Albert, a Trinidadian. They’ve been living in London a long time. She works on the wards in an NHS hospital. This is an important role with some emotional scenes.
Actor Criteria:
Skin Colour = Asian
Gender = Female, Min. Age = 50, Max. Age = 65
10. Character Name: Veronica
Character Description: A young lawyer and a keen salsa dancer.
Actor Criteria:
Skin Colour = black or mixed race
Gender = Female, Min. Age = 25, Max. Age = 30
