'I Am A Great Man' is a satirical mokumentary about an eccentric, pompous, badly flawed local politician who decides to strike out on his own and form his own party to challenge the elite. Against the all odds, he comes very close to succeeding. This mockumentary feature is being produced by the team that made 'William Shakespeare's Measure for Measure' and 'Jack Says' and now require the folliwing cast: Leonard 45-50 year old white male, balding, portly. Pompous, arrogant politician who thinks he is more important than he actually is. Obsessed with status and astonishingly rude to everyone. He has a wildly hot temper. Leonard’s favourite phrase is “I am a great man.” Think Timothy Spall. Susan 50-55 year old white female, haggard. Chain smoking, hard drinking wife of Leonard, brutally sarcastic and cynical. She is resigned to the mediocrity of her husband, but refuses to give up entirely on him. Combative and forthright. Think Jenny Éclair Gary 30-35 year old white male, slim. Ruthless, calculating ‘senior media advisor’ to Leonard. Ultra cynical, nothing shocks or surprises him, he is prepared to do whatever it takes to get ahead. Has worked with Leonard for many years, and is chiefly responsible for his successes and failures. Think Stephen Merchant. Sebastian 20-25 year old black male, good looking. Idealistic young documentary maker looking to kick start his career, determined to see the good in people. Deep thinker. Think David Oyelowo. Simon 40-45 year old British/Indian male, classically middle aged. Dull politician whose sole reasoning for going into politics is to get a social life. Socially awkward, spineless and chronically indecisive. Think Sanjeev Bhaskar Virginia 50-55 year old white female, upper class. Politician. Born and bred in the countryside, an upper class meddler with a short temper. Achingly enthusiastic, surprisingly stupid. Think Helen Mirren. Geoffrey 55-60 year old white male, curly grey hair. Politician. An unhealthy obsession with persuing old enemies, cannot let go of a grudge. Dry wit, absent minded. Think Tom Wilkinson. Jessica 60-65 year old white female, Scottish. Eccentric ex opera singer, new to politics. Very absent minded, has a constant need to mother people. Think Annette Crosbie. Janice 55-60 year old white female. Leonard’s secretary at the House of Commons. Dominant, bossy and in calm control over everyone and everything in her sight. Believes the less politicians know the better. Think Penelope Keith. Auditions will be held in West London in the first week of November, and filming is proposed for March 2008. This is paid work, likely to be a buy-out contract.
