Re: Actors - does this ring any bells?

Yes, loud and clear. The sad fact is that I've been taken in by these fools in the past! I read with interest the mails on here from Joe Rispoli about various successful litigious actions. I think things have probably got a lot better but what actor wants to get embroiled in litigation with past 'colleagues', (and for that matter people who retain artistic material that they can misuse)?
The promise of a copy of the finished films for your showreel seems to be a common inducement these days, especially for low or no budget productions. But be warned it is an inducement that is pretty much worthless after the production company have taken what they want and have all they need for a grant. I suspect I'll never receive a copy of 'Hope for Pinok' from Minotauro Productions (project advertised on here!) despite all my efforts in the production.
And then there is the issue of expenses for auditions touched in the youtube clip. No production companies ever want to pay for audition expenses. I know an actor who recently got an invite to audition from Adam Smithe for the role of 'Bishop' in the film Jack Falls. Supposedly a big and authentic production team. After booking and paying for a train ticket the audition was cancelled by Adam on the last minute (I'm told they fell out with their director). When a complaint was made at first the response was one of 'complaining won't go down well with the directors'. When it was made clear that this was not good enough Adam begrudgingly agreed to pay the wasted train fare. The actor has yet to see any refund, he was never re invited for audition (not that he would have gone considering the shabby way he was treated ) and now his emails to Adam Smithe go unanswered!
All in all thanks Jude, I recommend all actors watch the youtube clip and practice Julies lines ready for the next dodgy proposition. (funny though that it's animated rather than using actors )
