Well the £600 per day quote is a current quote and it's very expensive. The real liberty is charging getting on for DOUBLE for online editing. The issue is that more disk space is used but hardly justifies what they charge. Most of the budget for my last film was about £2000 spent on post production. Charging VAT when they can claim it back is of course another CON.
Click on my name and see my web links for the Going Dutch show to see editor links on the continent. At 35-60 Euros an hour it's seriously worth considering editing over there. As ever the UK is a complete rip-off. I had a private editor in the UK quote me about £500 for an offline per day, still too expensive really. The other problem is that there are also a lot of cowboys around even amongst the bigger facilities in London.
