I have seen this type of message come up frequently its a shock to the sytem of most people when you say "here's my rate". Working for free only gets you so far.
I can understand it to an extent: gaining experience etc, but it doesn't actually gain you a thing. You are not really learning how to work becasue your not seeing the true side of the job I have worked in this job for seven years and increasingly get the low budget film calls, when I ask about budgets the answer is usually expences only.
No cost of materials or anything else just my travel. When I turn it down however and suggest contacting a student (no offence to sutudents) they say we want smeone with expereince, well expreince costs money.
Stand by your morals and your rate card, BECTU is fighting it and we need to as well.
