Shorts: Halloween Short Film Festival presents Rockumentary Britannia
The Halloween Short Film Festival is an annual event at the ICA and Curzon Soho in London, mixing new shorts programmes with live music and bar events. Here the festival presents recent favourites with an East theme, including films about The Libertines and Pete Doherty’s infamous Teesdale Road E2 house parties; hip hop collective UNKLE; indie superstars Kasabian filming a music video in Eastern Europe; East London anarchist art-punk Selfish C***; the New Cross indie explosion (featuring bands such as Bloc Party and Art Brut); and Hackney’s burgeoning grime scene including the Roll Deep Crew. Plus Eel Pie Island residents and token West Londoners The Mystery Jets with a manic tour video-diary. A varied selection, but one that showcases the exciting musical times that we live in.
To illustrate some of the music featured, we present live sets from East London’s punk label Horseglue Records signings BeastStellaBeast, rising stars of the New Cross scene SomewhereOutsideNewYork, and a set from local Hackney grime MCs.
Films: As Angry As Me (Tom Sheehan); Clubfooted (Owen Oppenheimer); F*** the Police (Anne McCloy); The Man From Unkle (Lucius Yeo / Belen Bueso Alberdi); The Mystery Jets Revue (Sarah Sea / Fay Buzzard); Rocklands (Ben Blaine / Chris Blaine); Thrown In & Spat Out (Lucia Helenka / Troy Miller)
