Edinburgh boost for new directors

Six up-and-coming directors have been picked to attend the Directors' Lab at the Edinburgh Film Festival, where they'll get five days of intensive support from a group of leading film-makers.
Producer/director Stephen Woolley is the Patron of the Lab for the second year running. Former BBC Films boss David Thompson and Robert Jones from the UK Film Council are also on the panel.
Each of the participants will get paired with a mentor to offer them ongoing creative advice.
The organisers say the emerging film-makers involved in the project were selected for their strong, distinctive voices and a desire to move from shorts, TV, documentaries and theatre to features.
The film-makers are:
Esther May Campbell, who won this year's BAFTA for short film, for September
Deborah Haywood, who won Screen International's Star of Tomorrow award in 2007
Corinna Faith, whose film Care was nominated for a BAFTA
Johnny Barrington, who was nominated for a Scottish BAFTA for Trout
Chris Shepherd, who's won a number of awards for his animations and live action work
Avie Luthra, whose BAFTA nominated film Lucky was also shortlisted for an Oscar®
Three of them have previously been involved in the London Film Festival-backed Think Shoot Distribute initiative, which gives producers, screenwriters and directors an opportunity to meet with leading film professionals in a series of workshops and master-classes exploring the international film industry.
The Artistic Director of the Edinburgh International Film Festival Hannah McGill said the event prided itself on being an international festival of discovery and a showcase for new talent.
