Budding, Scottish based screen writers still have a few days left to enter a competition which could see their script ideas make it onto the silver screen at Edinburgh’s International Film Festival. Following the success of One Minute Wonder script competition in 2007, Metro Ecosse and The List Short Film Competition 2008 is scouring the country with the aim of discovering Scotland’s brightest new writing talent. The deadline for entries this year is 2400hrs, 22 February 2008 – meaning that there is still time for would-be script writers to get their creative juices flowing. This exciting opportunity is open to all Scottish residents over the age of 16 who have not previously had a broadcast or cinema credit. This year’s theme is BIG! - with the emphasis on big ideas, not big budgets - see the entry form for more details. Scripts need to be between one and three minutes in length and should be achievable in a one day shoot. The three winning ideas will be made into films with professional crews and directors Alison Peebles, Adrian Mead and Barry Paton. Amongst those on the judging panel are Chairperson Paul Dale, film editor of The List, Oscar Askin, Managing Director of Metro Ecosse and Matthew Lloyd, Programmer of Short Films for the Edinburgh International Film Festival. This year, the competition will also contain a major new training element. Award winning screenwriter and director Adrian Mead will host an intensive weekend training workshop as part of the short-listing process, which twenty writers will be chosen to attend. After the development weekend the twenty writers will submit new drafts of their scripts for the next round of the selection process. Nine finalists will be selected for interview with the jury, who will then choose the three winning scripts. The completed films will be screened during the Edinburgh International Film Festival, followed by a party to celebrate all that creativity being discovered! Metro Ecosse and The List will support the films throughout 2008 by entering them to film festival competitions across the World and providing media support. Already the 2007 films have been selected for three film festivals, screened at T in the Park and in the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
