About:

We are the Gemstones, a contemporary vocal harmony ensemble. We met through social networking sites, after answering an Ad for singers by Founder and Manager Dorothy Mdoe in early 2008. We formed the current Gemstones Group in March 2008 specifically to enter Last Choir Standing on BBC1. We were in the top 60 in the whole of the UK after forming 3 weeks before the competition and beat off choirs that had been together over 10 years.

We have a talented musical director, Marcus Davidson, who is a professional pianist and composer and creates fantastic sounds from very challenging harmonies. www.marcusdavidson.net
The Gemstones Vocal Harmony Collective is a community project that has created various ensembles, a gospel choir, a contemporary vocal harmony group, mentors various worthy community groups like UNITY Carnival Arts and PR for up and coming groups like Chante and The Fore. The contemporary vocal harmony group is a combination of some of the gospel singers, classical singers and some great soul/jazz belters. We are 8 in total in this group and it has proved to work well as a 4 part harmony.
Dorothy Mdoe advertised for singers the internet via sites like Facebook, myspace & Bebo to form an contemporary urban vocal harmony ensemble that would sing challenging classics, popular pop songs and songs in foreign languages. We think there is a gap in the market for an all female vocal ensemble like us who defy industry stereotypes and can sing very well, look good and captivate audiences. We will be recording an original song that we sang on Last Choir Standing under the direction of Marcus Davidson.

We are available for bookings and if given enough notice we can sing a repertoire of your choice for your event. We can do corporate events, private functions, TV, Radio, any City of London celebrations, concerts, fashion shows, award shows, festivals, competitions, weddings, religous events such as Christenings, Bar Mitzvahs etc..., , shopping centres and more.
CASTINGS
If you live in London or M25 area, WE ARE LOOKING FOR GOOD SINGERS TO JOIN OUR MIXED GIRL/BOYBAND to mentor for Xfactor 6 in 2009. If you want to audition for Xfactor 2009 as part of the mixed group please contact us. To learn more about our mentoring programme contact AUDITIONS.ULTIMATEBIGBREAK@GMAIL.COM. You will be mentored by the same management team that successfully managed the Gemstones during the Last Choir Standing & X-factor 2008 auditions. Under 16 must have permission of parents/legal guardian(s) to audition. We are auditioning from March to mid-April 2009. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO SING QUITE WELL AND READ MUSIC BE UNDER 28 years preferrable and BE SLIM TO MEDIUM BUILD.
