We are the Gemstones Choir. We met through a community project formed by Naisae Dorohy Mdoe in January 2008. The Gemstones Vocal Harmony Collective is a community project that has various ensembles, a gospel choir, a typical choral ensemble, a soul vocal harmony ensemble. the 10 piece gospel choir formed in January 2008. The larger choral ensemble formed in March 2008. The soul vocal ensemble is a combination of some of the gospel singers and the choral group and we are 12 in total.
Naisae Dorothy advertised for singers the internet via sites like Gumtree to form an contemporary urban vocal harmony ensemble that would sing challenging classics, popular pop songs and songs in foreign languages. We think there is a gap in the market for an all female vocal ensemble like us who defy industry stereotypes and can sing very well, look good and captivate audiences.
