BRIEFLY ABOUT DEAFPOWER: DeafPower Productions was founded in the year 2000 after we secured sponsorships to film two Sign Language programs called, “Key for the Future” and “My Best Sport…the Condom” and that is how DeafPower Productions was born.DeafPower Productions concentrates on filming Sign Language television programs with the sole purpose of keeping Deaf people informed, entertained and educated and hearing people Deaf aware.We are the voice of and for the Deaf and we know that it is a human right to communicate, to send and receive information. We are to try to keep Deaf people informed through motion pictures and television.The cornerstone for the recognition of the human rights of Deaf people is the recognition of Sign Language as a language of its own. That is why we concentrate on filming only Sign Language programs using Deaf actors so as to take the language of Deaf people and Deaf people themselves to the hearing community. We believe that television offers a window on the world and is a part of modern culture, entertainment, information and education. Everyone including Deaf people, should have the opportunity to be involved in this medium so as to allow their full participation in society. DeafPower is currently in need of a sum of R68 816-00 about US7000- towards the filming of Hope for the Future. Hope for the Future is an awareness program about the human rights of Deaf people. We are trying to bring it to everyone’s attention that Deaf people have rights too.
