Nicola Brown

Reporter, Researcher, Script Editor, Writer
About:
I am open and friendly, but determined and driven. I am a writer who has not been recognised by the industry so far. My subjects are never cute and warm. I prefer hard edges and anger. I like to explore human motivations and always try to push the envelope. I am not mainstream and therefore am not an obvious choice for safe-playing agents and publishers.

Training and Skills

Other Skills:
I am a trained scientist but have the heart of a writer (my family name is Shakespeare). I have a PhD in Experimental Pathology and have put it to good use in my writing. I am a trained copy editor and am totally ruthless at removing irrelevance. I avoid lengthy description and concentrate on the essence of my characters. I expect a lot from my readers. I DO NOT LEAD THEM BY THE NOSE!

Additional Information

My first book is a horror/fantasy. It is about an abused female character. It has similarities to 'Fight Club', 'The Last Seduction' and 'American Psycho'. It is graphic and contains scenes of sex and torture. It is an angry book about how men and women interact today. The are many funny moments and observations too.
My second book is about a woman who has just ingested a lethal amount of sleeping tablets. As she is dying she assesses her life one final time. The book is written through the eyes of the women she has known: her mother; her cousins; her sister etc. It shows how modern women are a product of their family history.
Both books are very personal for me and I hope they will be for my readers too.
