Asian British Entercation Division/ Asian British Casting division www.abed.org.uk Founder and senior manager/ journalist Oct 06 – date Created a platform for creative minded people to come together and produce innovative ideas socially and collectively. Senior researcher and journalist, manage a team of 5 dedicated workers in the daily running and admin of ABED. Successfully applied and received funding from the Heritage Fund to work within ethnic minority communities in Camden, striving for integration in accordance to EU social cohesion requirements Brick Lane (Feature) - Film Four/UK Film Council/Ruby Films 1st AD/Producer: Chris Collins Second Assistant director for pick up shots Oct 06 Second AD for pick up shots on this week-long shoot for Brick Lane, ensuring the smooth running of the production, liaising with all departments on a regular basis. Delivered all requirements set by director regarding characters in the film. Created call sheets, and movement orders, whilst also handling all of my supporting artists Darjeeling Express (Feature)- Jina Jay Casting Casting director: Jina Jay Casting consultant/resourcer Sep - Oct 06 I was asked by Jina Jay casting to help find “Rita” for Wes Anderson’s feature film. Acting as “The London Casting Contact” I used non traditional means, ie not going through agents and finding the same old faces, but gaining access to communities, through clubs, websites, street casting. I Held two casting sessions and collated over 70 hopefuls, which I then forwarded onto New York and Jina Jay. Brick Lane (Feature) - Film Four/UK Film Council/Ruby films Second Second Assistant Director Jun - Aug 06 Took on 2nd AD duties and helped heavily in rehearsals of the political meeting scenes in the film. I put together the entire cast in this section and contributed on script amendments not just in these scenes but throughout. Understanding call sheets, importance of time, working closely with the first AD, movement orders, applying for child licences, working on close relationships and improving overall people skills has meant I now have the confidence to work in absolutely any Brick Lane (Feature) – Film Four/UK Film Council Director: Sarah Gavron, Producer: Alison Owen Casting executive Feb – Jun 06 Found four of the main cast, after holding open calls and then a set of auditions, in various places such as schools and community centres. Also created an extras database of over 500 British Asians, of whom 250 were placed as supporting actors throughout the film. Helped aspiring actors in auditions working with people who have limited experience in film, giving opportunities to people from underprivileged backgrounds. Once main actors were chosen, helped heavily with dialogue of “Chanu” whom I helped with his “Bangladeshi” accent, and “Karim” who I helped improve his “Street/Urban/Bangladeshi” manner to suit his character more. Also taught him Bengali phrases which were essential to the film. Ruby Films Producer: Alison Owen, Assistant: Faye Ward Local Fixer/ Researcher Jan - Feb 06 In Pre production, helped with initial locations, art department, and casting queries. Being of Bangladeshi origin, I felt an important part of the production from the beginning Shaheen Baig Casting Casting Director: Shaheen Baig Casting Assistant Nov - Feb 06 Increased awareness of the opportunities available to British Bangladeshis by attending projects they had completed, and giving them more info on how to break into the mainstream. Assisted Shaheen with auditions and open castings. Made regular phone calls, arranged auditions, took control of the street casting, and helped actors in workshops and rehearsals. Created a database of over 100 industry based links.
