My name is Charlie Gregory. I have a film-script called the 'The Under-manager.' This is based on my novel of the same name. The Under-manager is a thriller set in Scotland. It deals with the taboo subject of anti-English racism in Scotland, at the time when Scotland has just got its own parliament. Daniel, the English Under-manager of the local marine radio station, is blackmailed into setting up a communication's set-up for a group of nationalist para-militaries. There follows a fast moving drama as Daniel and Freya, one of the para-military leaders, form a passionate love-hate relationship which results in Freya deciding to kidnap and murder Daniel's pregnant fiance. Now there is violence, conspiracy, plot and counter-plot, as Daniel becomes ever more determined to wreck the terrorist plot - with the para-militaries just as determined to succeed. There is also much of historical interest in the film. Scotland at a time of transition - for one. And the fact that the film shows the last of the marine radio officers in action, at the time when Morse code was phased out and the radio officer was consigned to history.
