WHO MADE IT? | Director: Ondi Timoner Cast: Anton Newcombe, Courtney Taylor and The Dandy Warhols | WHAT'S IT ABOUT? | This is a feature length documentary shot over seven years about Anton Newcombe, leader of the Brian Jonestown Massacre and Courtney Taylor, the head of The Dandy Warhols. The film shows how their friendship turned into bitter rivalry. It also depicts the rise and fall of the two bands as one (BMJ) stuck to its non conformist roots while the other succumbed to commercialism by securing a record deal. | WHAT'S IT LIKE? | This is like watching a car crash - it's scary and horrific but you simply can't look away. Shot on video it's absolutely gripping watching Anton Newcombe self destruct on drugs and blow away his band?s chances of making it to the big time while starting a hate campaign against The Dandys as their star starts to rise. The Blur/Oasis like feud is hysterical because no one has ever heard of the two groups so it's completely pointless. Of the two front men Newcombe is the more talented and so it's criminal the way he just sabotages his chances to become successful especially when a record producer puts his reputation and job on the line to help him. This is a fascinating look at the music business and what it takes to make it. | DIG! Opens on 1 July 2005
