About:
|
Welcome. I've been writing songs on the acoustic guitar for about four years. I have two home produced albums, 'Reaching for the Stars' and 'Hung Out to Dry', that add up to 40 songs between them. I have a third album with about 8 songs on, incomplete, and various other scattered CD-rs with new and old. My new album will be called 'Made in Acoustica' and will feature more than 10tracks. Whereas the music has previously been my main concern the new album will be recorded through a decent audio interface and I'll be spending more time on the production side. The album may well include some collaborative efforts, time will tell. Technically my music involves alternative tunings which I normally create myself, palm-muting, discord, harmonics and dramatic pace changes and stops. My songs combine fingerstyle and chord shapes, original and unusual chord shapes at all possible opportunities - far more sonically rewarding. Vocally I'm at the high end but it depends on the song and my range varies. I don't do and keep doing any one thing. I can play a range of instruments but my main passion is playing my good old 6 string with a cutaway- reliable, honest, unassuming. I'm not interested in cashing in or selling out. I write the lead guitar for my tunes and use some fx for mood, texture and atmos but most of my stuff is pretty bare-bones, the way I prefer it. I have sampled some audioclips into my work. I may go on to further experiment in field recording and backdrop stuff like town-centre conversations amongst disillusioned people after having had one too many and other sounds/incidentals like doors slamming, grasshoppers whirring, motors roaring, babies whaling. I like the raw sound of fret buzz, the imperfections in an acoustic riff, the off-points, the unintended mutes, the clacks and cracks of a thin b-string, notes racing towards the brassy g. Can you feel the energy that this instrument can make? I do too. It's a great feeling. My music is punctured, non-mainstream. I've lived on a diet of obscure and original music for years and I think I've been infected by the music I enjoy listening to. I write honestly. I don't have time for anyone who is dishonest in their art. If art is to be lasting, to outlive its creators, then it mustn't be flawed with the wretched things that consume us now. This is just what I do for now and I guess the now has lasted a few years. It's not a lifestyle though, it's not filling every ache inside me - it's just one diversion in the river, lowering down the levels somewhat. Come take the ride with me, but don't tip the boat. I have a few good friends, no more than a handful. I value honesty and tenderness, reliability, trustworthiness - that's not easy to come by. Hell is other people, but not always - dare I modify the words of Satre. The human spirit needs more than music, I don't live and breathe it, but it is one part of the fix. The world is too big and too beautiful for one person to have just a few singular passions. I take songwriting seriously and my lyrics don't contain throwaway lines or forced rhymes. I'm a published poet and have performed at gigs a few times. It's a love-hate relationship. That's another story. I've never really been commercially minded with my music. I just do what I do and I like it when someone takes to my stuff. Good music should make a true emotional/intellectual connection with those involved in it - the listeners. But it's a two-way street. The music ceases to have significance for anyone except the performer when the listener isn't affected. I have many times found myself in the position where the music is only significant to me - but that's ok, I keep doing my thing and you keep doing yours. Right now we're both breathing, sentient beings. Let's do what we can to keep it worthwhile. --If you would like to hear one of the CD's and have PayPal I will send out to you @ cost of postage and CD only. 'Made in Acoustica' should be completed before the end of the year, hopfully by October.

I would like to hook up with a NW* based female singer-songwriter who sings with passion and can play good, selective lead guitar. Some percussion (bongos would be great) and bass guitar skills (preferably on an acoustic bass) would be an advantage. (or willingness to learn) Would like to collaborate - vocal harmonies, backing, dual guitar playing, general co-songwriting; a partnership of creative minds. *(pref local to or nr to Liverpool)
