Sandra Spencer

Actress, Presenter, Singer, Voice Over
About:
Sandra first expressed her life-long passion for performing at the age of ten, when she joined the Crucible Youth Theatre in Sheffield. She went on to study opera under renowned Opera tutor Peter Firmani who was impressed by Sandra’s exceptional voice while she was singing a repertoire of soul classics in a Motown tribute show.
Sandra was selected to front the cult Midlands cable-tv music magazine show The Zone. As the presenter of Groove Zone, Sandra got to grips with television studio presentation. The producers of The Zone allowed Sandra to formally study Media and Production & travel throughout the UK to interview such big names as Usher, The Dreem Team, and Karl Tuff Enuff Brown for the TV show.
After Singing and Presenting Sandra developed a fierce determination to succeed in Acting. She attained a highly-sought after place at the Academy Drama School in London, where she immersed herself in the world of theatre. Sandra’s drama education led to her acclaimed performance as Adriana in the Comedy of Errors at the Shakespeare Globe. After her stage success Sandra switched to television acting, working on various BBC drama productions before a six-month stint on the top ITV drama Bad Girls.
Sandra began studying advanced screen acting and stage combat in order to obtain bigger and better roles. She applied her formal training to a series of roles in low-budget independent British films, quickly acquiring a reputation which led to a call from producer Manish Patel who offered her the role of Sandy in Triads, Yardies and Onion Bhajees (TYOB). TYOB went on to win the Black and Asian Film Award at Cannes in 2003. TYOB was also named Film of the Festival at the Bradford Film Festival. The film was released through independent cinemas in November 2003.
Also in 2003, the Black Filmaker’s Festival screened the film Echoes of War, in which Sandra played the Vicar, this led to an immediate offer of representation by one of the UK's leading acting agencies. Echoes went on to win best film in 2004 at the Screen Nation Awards.
In 2004 Sandra has appeared as the troubled nightclub manager Tess in Rewind. Her prseentitng talent led her to host an "Oscar" style ceremony for the West Indian Cricket Awards shown on Sky Television and around the Caribbean.
Recently Sandra has peformed at the Hackney Empire alongside Richard Blackwood in Ange Le Mars comedy "The Brothers" and has performed in plays directed by the well known Clara Armand. Sandra is currently a part time radio presenter for Goodmayes Hospital.
