- How do I create an image on my computer?
In order to upload images onto UKscreen you will need a
computer with one of the following:
- A scanner to scan your printed photos.
- A digital camera with a connection to your computer.
The process of using these devices to create your image varies from
product to product. Please consult the manual that came with your
device for details.
- There are lots of different kinds of computer image - which should I use?
The software which comes with your scanner will typically give you a
large choice of image format distinguished by the different file
extensions (e.g. tiff, bmp, jpg, etc.). It is important that you
choose the correct one or you will not be able to upload your image onto
UK screen. We accept images in the following formats:
- JPEG (.jpg)
- PNG (.png)
- GIF (.gif)
We recommend that you use JPEG images as they provide the best trade-off
between image size and quality, but you are free to use PNG and GIF images
also. When you capture your image, make sure that you have saved it as a
JPEG file (as in, 'test.jpg').
- What size should my picture be?
Your image file must not exceed 20KB (20000 Bytes), which is more than what you need for a JPG or a GIF images. The smaller your image size the faster your page, therefore we highly recommend that you compress your image as much as you can, without reducing the quality. If you don't have an image editing software, then you check download.com where you can find many image-editing softwares available for free.
- My image is on a different web site - can I move it to UK screen?
It is relatively simple to move your image from one site to
another. Assuming you are using Windows, simple load the appropriate
page containing your image into your web browser. Place your mouse over
your photo, and hit the right mouse button. Select the option
"Save picture As" from the menu which appears to save the photo
on your computer. You can now upload your image to UK screen
in the usual way.
- What if I do not have the right equipment?
Most Photocopying and Internet shops will be able to create an
image on a floppy disk for you from a photograph. Alternatively, you
can send us your picture and we will upload it for you for a charge of
10 GBP - click here
for details.
- I uploaded a new photo but I still see the old one?
Don't worry! everybody else sees your new photo. This problem is specific to your browser.
Try and refresh your browser. If it doesn't work then clean your browser's cache (or offline files).
- The quality of my photo is degraded after uploading it?
If size of your image file is larger than 20KB then our system will try and compress it to a smaller file size. This process could compromise the quality of the photo.
You can avoid this by compressing your photo in a proper image-editing software before uploading it to your webpage.
