- What is Streaming Media?
Streaming media means that you don't have to wait for a video clip to
download to your computer before you can view it - it will play near-instantly
when you click on the clip. All the video clips on UK screen are
streaming media.
- How do I play Music and Video on UK screen?
To play the Videos on UK screen you must first
download a free Player .
There are four different kinds of Media available on
UK screen. Click the links below to download the
appropriate software for each:
- i) Real Media
- requires free
RealPlayer
software from real.com (look for RealPlayer Basic).
- ii) WindowsMedia
- requires free
Windows Media Player
software from Microsoft.
- ii) QuickTime
- requires free
QuickTime player software from Apple.
- iii) MPEG
- You can play with any of the above players.
- Should I play low or high band media?
In general, if you have a dial up modem then you should play low band media, and if you have a fast connection like ADSL or broadband cable then you can play high band media.
The higher the speed of your connection, the better quality of video you get.
- I keep getting an error message "can't find media files"!
There are two reason for this:
- The server where the media files are stored is down.
- The owner of the media files didn't link them or upload them to his/her UKscreen page.
Try again later
- The video doesn't play smoothly on my browser!
There could be a variety of different reasons for this:
- Your ISP (The server you dial to connect to the Internet) does not
have enough bandwidth to enable you watch the clip: this will be a problem
when there are many users connected to their server.
- You might be caught in a rush hour - this depends on your geographical
location. If there are too many people using the Internet in your location,
your connection will slow down.
- There may be a problem with your telephone line: if there is any
noise on the telephone line (audible as crackling when you make a call),
then your modem may not be able to connect at full speed.
In all of the above situations try the following:
- Close all other applications on your computer apart from your web browser.
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting to the Internet.
- Play the low band clip if one is available.
- Try again later!
